Siaya Governor James Aggrey Bob Orengo has assured Kenyans that the Luo community will not stop fighting for the presidency till one of them ascends to the Office of President.
Orengo said the Luo are in Kenya not by accident but active stakeholders in all affairs of the country including the presidency.
The Siaya Governor who was speaking at the burial of Prof. Bethwel Ogot in Gem Sub-County on Saturday said the Luo community are not only a logistical part of this nation but taxpayers with equal chances to ascend the throne of power.
“We are still looking for a day when a Luo will be the president of the Republic of Kenya so am pleading with you as Luos not to fear. If somebody says that the Luo have been part of the history of the cradle of knowledge from Mesopotamia to Egypt to Sudan, I am today telling you about the responsibility we have as a Luo Nation to chart the political direction of this country,” said Orengo.
Orengo at the same time asked leaders not to think that projects Nyanza is benefiting from the National government were given because of any close relationship with the president but they trickle to the region because Luos are taxpayers.
“Projects we receive from government are our right and they are not meant to distract us from our political agenda of capturing power.”
Energy and Petroleum Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi who has been defending the ruling administration made it clear that he was deeply rooted in ODM and every step made by party organs, he was aware.
“ I am a life-member of ODM Party and well-versed with the happenings in the party so Kenyans should know that,” said Wandayi.
He at the same time faulted some politicians from the Central Kenya for executing plots that cost former Premier Raila Odinga the AUC Chairmanship seat.
“The AUC election that pitied Raila and other two contestants have taught us very valuable lessons as a people. It has made us know our genuine friends and those against us. President Ruto fronted Raila and diligently campaigned for him.
“Its so sad that as Kenyans, we betray ourselves, the AUC position that was being contested by one of our own turned out to be a distress to our own Kenyans to an extent that they made calls to certain African Heads of State to deny Raila votes,” alleged Wandayi.
Kisumu Governor Prof Peter Anyang’ Nyong’o warned that Kenya as a country risks facing political crisis unless the ruling elite listens to the plight of the people at grassroots level.
“As ODM we lent the government experts that helped to put out the political fire that was consuming the country and will not allow you to seek an audience with us over another crisis. That’s why we are asking President Ruto to give the audience an ear and act as per their requests for peace to reign in the country,” said Nyong’o.
