Reports in a weekly tabloid indicate that there are new players among cartels who control the tendering process in Siaya.
Already a group of dissatisfied contractors have accused Governor James Orengo’s administration of allocating major tenders to non-locals leading to poor circulation of money in the region.
Those who spoke to Weekly Citizen and sought anonymity said that most tenders are awarded to Kikuyus and Idian businessmen at the expense of local contractors.
A source revealed that Orengo’s wife Betty Murungi has interest in some of the preferred companies.
Weekly Citizen has also established that the perceived favoured contractors , some of them ghost contractors, are also paid promptly as opposed to others who are forced to make several follow ups for their payments.
They now want the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) to conduct investigations at the procurement department, said to be the bedrock of corruption in Siaya.
Siaya County procurement boss has been identified as the chief cartel in cutting lucrative tender deals.
Early this year, the EACC promised to roll out asset recovery in Siaya, after completion of investigations into misappropriation of funds.
Commissioner Cecilia Mutuku said Siaya has been on the radar of the EACC and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) over mismanagement of public resources.
