Siaya Governor James Aggrey Bob Orengo went into theatrics as he denied Gem MP Elisha Ochieng Akuba a chance to speak at a fundraiser in Wagai, Saturday afternoon.

The Chief Guest at the fundraiser was former vice-president Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka who was accompanied by Min Piny Dr. Ida Odinga.

Also present were former Mungiki leader Maina Njenga, Minority Leader James Opiyo Wandayi among others.

Governor Orengo met some vocal resistance when he denied the popular Gem MP a chance to address the audience but since they had visitors Gem people let it pass.

Mr. Elisha Odhiambo Akuba is among the rebel ODM Party legislators who are causing party bigwigs a headache. The two-term MP has a solid following in the ground although he is said to have fallen out with a powerful political family in the region.

The choice of Gem for the Education fundraiser was intentional but only time will tell whether it succeeded in eroding the popularity of the sitting MP.

Governor Orengo later posted on his Twitter page:

“Joined Wiper Party leader H.E @skmusyoka, Mama @IdaOdinga and other distinguished guests in a fundraiser to empower constituents of Gem in Wagai. Education is one of my administration’s key pillars as I believe accessibility to quality education is not only important for individual development, but also for the development of a society.”

Meanwhile, Kalonzo Musyoka posted:

“I had the pleasure and joy of joining worshippers for the Sabbath Service at the SDA Maliera earlier this morning, along with H.E. Mama @IdaOdinga and Siaya Governor @orengo_james.
Later, I attended the GEM Educational and Empowerment Organization (GEEO) launch as the Chief Guest in Wangai – Kamukunji Stadium. The NGO’s stated mission is to “uplift the socio-economic and educational status of the needy and the vulnerable members of the Gem constituency community,” and that is what excites me. In fact, I was reminded of the famous quote from the late Koffi Annan, a former UN Secretary General: “Knowledge is power.” Knowledge is liberating. Progress in every family and society is predicated on education.”

It is my hope and prayer that the recipients of these scholarships for education will inspire not only the Gem community but also the County of Siaya and even Kenya.”
