Siaya County Executive Committee Member for Health Dr. Martin Konyango has experienced, firsthand, what the term rollercoaster means.
Barely a week after he issued dismissal letters to 10 Clinical Officers, 25 Nurses, 3 Pharmaceutical Technologists, 9 Laboratory Officers and 4 Orthopedic Trauma Officers everything has boomeranged.
DalanewsKe was reliably informed that internal memos from Health Ministry headquarters as well as communication from the County Secretary has forced Mr. K’Onyango to revoke his own directive. On Thursday December 21, 2023 he issued a lengthy letter to the medical staff union at Siaya County Referral Hospital asking for a taskforce to investigate ways of engaging medical staff on semi-permanent basis without making them appear casual labourers.
Mr. Martin Konyango’s letter was done in impeccable English, only the nurses were not impressed.
The Nurses Union now wants all reinstated staff to be fully compensated with allowances and remuneration that has not been forthcoming for the past three months.
“Hatutaki Kizungu Mingi just pay salary arrears for 3 months,” the nurses said at a meeting held at the referral facility on Thursday afternoon.
