ICT and Digital Economy Cabinet Secretary Eliud Owalo on Monday came to the rescue of a needy student whose plight was highlighted in Siaya WhatsApp groups.
The student David Odhiambo Muga scored 399 marks in the 2023 KCPE and secured a chance at Maseno School but was unable to attend owing to his parents’ financial incapacity.
In his appeal, David posted a heart-wrenching picture of himself holding a placard that indicated his father was a casual labourer and his mother a housewife.
Siaya political bigwigs were addressing the boy’s plight on endless social media discourse when team Owalo jumped in and swiftly offered a comprehensive four-year scholarship as well as maintenance and other contingencies.
In the current financial year, the County Government of Siaya allocated KES 90 million worth of bursaries to be distributed in the 30 Wards. The kitty targeted 14,000 needy students across the county.
