Security officials in Kabondo Kasipul are investigating an incident in which a 50-year-old woman was found dead in River Awach in the constituency.
Caroline Akoth was found dead in unclear circumstances after she went missing for two days.
Akoth disappeared from their farm on Friday when she went to cultivate her land at Ogenga village in Kasewe location.
Her family reported that she went missing before her body was found.
Hitherto, nobody knows what happened to her.
Kasewe location chief Dickson Samba said they have reported the matter to the police for investigations to establish what killed the woman.
The administrator said he was called by a village elder who also got a report about the matter.
“We found the body trapped on reeds and twigs in the river waters. The matter has been reported to the police for investigations,” Samba said.
Speaking on Monday after the incident, Samba said they had asked some of the woman’s family who informed them that she did not show any signs of being in distress.
The administrator said the family of the deceased had been looking for the woman after she failed to go back home.
The body was found on Sunday morning.
“Her husband reported that he realised Akoth’s missing when he went to check on Akoth at the farm. They started searching for her but found body two days later before they alerted the authorities,” he added.
Police officers from Othoro station led by the subcounty commander Justus Kucha were informed before they visited the scene to retrieve the body.
They took the body to Jawabu mortuary for postmortem.
The security officers believe that the autopsy will reveal what killed the woman.
Kucha asked residents from the area to report cases of missing persons.
“We’re going to interrogate more family members as well as undertake postmortem to establish the cause of death,” Kucha said.
