A police officer attached to Githiga Police Station in Kiambu County was arrested on Tuesday after assaulting his boss and causing a commotion inside the station.
According to a police report obtained by Kenyans.co.ke, the officer arrived at the station for his shift at night seemingly drunk.
Moments later, he began hurling insults at a section of civilians who had presented themselves at the station to file reports.
The report stated that the cop chased away all the civilians inside the station and closed the gate, denying the public access to the premises.
During the commotion, the rogue police officer assaulted one of the civilians who incurred injuries on the head and limbs.
Other officers responded to the distress calls by the civilians. To contain the situation, the officers attempted to prevail upon their colleague to calm down.
However their indulgence did not do much to deter their colleague from his rage, the rogue cop proceeded to assault one of his seniors, a female officer.
After establishing that the situation was getting out of hand, the officers ganged up against their colleague and restrained him, pinning him on the ground.
Moments after being arrested, the rogue police officer was placed in one of the cells pending his presentation and arraignment in court.
According to the police report, the suspect will be charged with drunk and disorderly conduct, creating disturbance within the police precincts and assaulting and using insubordinate language against a senior officer.
The investigations will seek to establish whether the suspect violated the provisions of Section 64 of the Police Act, which requires police officers to uphold the Standing Orders and the Code of Regulations for the duration of their service.
If he is declared guilty, he will be subjected to disciplinary proceedings as outlined by the National Police Service (NPS).
