Wakili Fred Odumo Nying’uro recently paid a courtesy call on the newly coronated Luo Council of Elders Chairman Ker Odungi Randa.

The social call at Odungi Randa’s Boya home in Nyando, Kisumu County also provided the occasion for a review of the moral significance of Luo culture and traditions in the face of modern-day dynamics.

The Luo Ker challenged Wakili to be at the forefront of preserving and dignifying cultural practices.

“We must preserve and uphold the sanctity of our culture amid an assault by alien cultures thought to be yardsticks of modernism,” said the Luo Ker, adding “You, Fred Odumo Nying’uro and your generation bear responsibility for preserving that culture for the sake of posterity.”

In response, Wakili Fred Odumo Nying’uro said he will continue with his relentless efforts to give dignity to youth and women residing in Kisumu County by using his resources to lift their living standards.

The Luo Ker acknowledged that Wakili Fred Odumo Nying’uro’s efforts to assist the less privileged in society were known by all: “Onge ng’at ma pok owinjo ng’uono mari ne jopiny. Walamoni ni lek ma in godo mar tiyo ne jopiny ochop kare.” [Your generosity and efforts to assist the needy are known to all. We wish you all the best in your pursuit of the Kisumu Senatorial seat].

The Nairobi lawyer also shared with Ker Odungi Randa his agenda centered on the four pillars of education, health, gender equality and economic independence.

Present during the talks was Luo Council of Elders Organising Secretary Jotham Ajiki.
