Shocking disclosures have been made in a WhatsApp group whose members are senior Siaya County Executives to the effect that since May a certain cadre of employees have not received their salaries.

Further the internal disclosure shows that statutory deductions have not been remitted to the National Social Security Fund (NSSF) as well as National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF) since the end of May.

Meanwhile, employees who have received their pay have been shocked to discover that their NSSF and CPF deductions were affected but not remitted since a request for statement turns out a blank.

Specifically employees who were recruited in July 2023 are to-date unable to access NHIF services.

Delayed salaries, missing PF numbers and unremitted NHIF deductions have raised concern within the senior Executives’ group with one person suggesting that they should be addressed immediately as it was such relegation of duty that led to President Ruto firing his entire cabinet.

Surprisingly a number of the members of the group indicated their sympathies were with the employees, urging the relevant department to escalate remedial action.

“Imagine what happens when an employee loses a loved one because they cannot get proper medication or the embarrassment they face when they are ejected from their houses for failure to pay rent,” a member posted in the group.

In the meantime, the Siaya County Public Service Board has received acclaim for rigourously sending a digital form questionnaire to all employees with an intention to verify whether they exist and if their qualifications and years of service put them in line for the long-overdue promotion.

In efforts to streamline service delivery and productivity, the Chief Executive Officer’s office has sent out the questionnaire that will ultimately uproot ghost-workers and inept officials.
