Barely hours after he wowed Kenyans with the anachronism that since Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua loves mountains, he would donate three mountains for Gachagua to love, Suna East MP Junet Mohammed has snidely asked President Ruto for employment.
“President Ruto, our first Minority Leader was John Mbadi who is now a CS, the second one was Opiyo Wandayi, who is also a CS, I am the third Minority leader so if something comes up, know that a precedent has been set, even if it is AU minister I am here”, said Junet Mohammed.
The Migori-born politician of Somali ethnicity has recently proved to be a darling of political crowds pulling one thrilling yarn after another. Political pundits see something of the influence of Raila Odinga with whom Junet spent a lot of time in the run-up to the 2022 Presidential Elections.
President William Ruto has hinted at working with Raila Odinga’s ODM party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking in Ugunja Siaya county shortly after Junet had made his snide request, President Ruto hinted at a coalition with ODM Party, saying they might all be on one side with the Nyanza region ahead of 2027 elections. The president said those in the ODM Party, including Junet Mohamed, might be forced to leave opposition politics to others as they will be in government.
“Huyu Junet Mohamed, jana tulikubaliana kwamba huo uongozi wa upinzani, baada ya miaka mitatu, kama kuna watu wanatafuta upinzani, tuwapatie,” President William Ruto said.
During his tour of Luo Nyanza he has constantly intimated at working with the ODM Party in preparation for 2027.
Junet Mohammed is currently the official Minority Leader in the National Assembly and coincidentally both of his predecessors have been appointed Cabinet Secretaries.
For yet-to-be-established reasons Raila Amollo Odinga has kept Junet Mohammed as a confidante even when the later was being blamed for Raila’s loss in the last election. Before the broadbased government came into being, Junet and Wandayi were eloquent critics of president Ruto.
Meanwhile, James Opiyo Wandayi today celebrated his homecoming ceremony minus his children. While introducing his wife at the ceremony he apologised for the absence of his children “who are in school in Nairobi.”
In September last year DalanewsKe wrote an editorial that stated the three-term Ugunja Constituency Legislator was a man whose political star was set to shine brightest in the coming days. Maybe our editorial team did not foresee a behemoth such as the broadbased government but we could smell political success on Wandayi.
In a matter of speech today he brought home the ministerial flag to Ugunja. Before the Constituency was hived from the larger Ugenya constituency only the late Archbishop Stephen Ondiek and the erstwhile James Aggrey Bob Orengo had even flown the national flag as ministers across the Nzoia River.
Wandayi’s achievement today was historical and we do not shy off from reiterating the fact that he will yet rise to greater heights.
