A somber mood engulfed the Muhoroni Kamukunji grounds this morning as eleven victims of the Londiani-Muhoroni road accident were laid to rest.

Family and friends struggled to control their agony, leaning on each other and clutching at photos of deceased beloved ones.

The accident occurred on Tuesday September 3rd at Pangala in the Kisumu Ndogo area of the Londiani-Muhoroni road. Nine people died on the spot as a heavy duty Mercedes truck rammed into a Kisumu-bound matatu. Three people are still under medical observation having incurred critical injuries. Only one person survived in the crushed matatu and lived to recount firsthand the last moments before the accident.

Eyewitnesses recounted horrifying scenes that have left many traumatized.

The police said the truck driver lost control and rammed into the public service vehicle.

Religious and political leaders offered words of comfort during the joint mass service.

Wakili Fred Odumo Nying’uro (center) handing over his contribution to Muhoroni MP Onyango Koyoo at the mass funeral service of 11 residents of Muhoroni Constituency who died in a grisly road accident two weeks ago.

Also present was incoming Kisumu Senator Fred Odumo Nying’uro who gave a personal contribution of KES 40,000.

Mr. Nying’uro sent his heartfelt condolences to the families and friends of the deceased. He called for vigilance among road users and challenged NTSA to embark on mass sensitisation of traffic rules.
