The family of Zedekiah Odinga, a member of the subordinate staff at Kisumu Girls High School, is now asking the institution’s Principal to administer justice on the perpetrators of their kins’ murder.

Amid conflicting reports Zedekiah allegedly died at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital after being in a coma for 65 hours.

The late Zedekiah Odinga.

On the evening of 25 June 2024 Zedekiah left his work station in the company of co-workers including one lady identified as Lillian Migoye.

Police reports indicate that Lillian was possibly the last person seen in the company of the deceased on that evening. For the following three days Mr. Odinga who worked as a Laboratory Assistant at the institution did not show up for work.

This prompted his immediate boss, a Lab Technician named Fred Ouma to organise a search party to the deceased’s home. Ouma was accompanied by a close friend of the deceased Mr. Hillary Koech.

On arrival at the deceased’s home the duo found the door locked from inside and took the initiative to break it down without contacting either relatives or informing police.

According to the police reports they found the deceased alive but unconscious and decided to administer raw milk, orally. The deceased is said to have gained consciousness and even spoken with them.

They took Zedekiah to the Kisumu County Referral Hospital where he is recorded to have succumbed to death at 4:30 pm on 28 June 2024.

All this time neither the school administration nor Zedekiah’s immediate boss saw the need to alert the family.

It is also believed that two mobile phones belonging to the deceased were confiscated by the first responders and are possibly still in the custody of the school principal.

While the time of death according to hospital records is indicated as 4:30 pm, Fred Ouma and Hillary Koech discovered the unconscious body of the deceased at noon and there’s no explanation given as to what happened in the four hours in-between.

The cause of death which was initially recorded as “suspected poisoning” has now been altered to “natural causes”.

When the school’s principal, Mrs Eva Akeyo Odhiambo was summoned to record a statement by DCI she instead went to see the CCIO to whom she complained that she was being harassed by junior officers.

It is on record that the principal’s husband Charles Odhiambo who is the Chief of Staff in Homabay County Government called the investigating officer and issued what could possibly amount to a threat.

The family is now asking Madam Principal Eva Akeyo Odhiambo, if she is not complicit in a coverup, to help them get to the bottom of the matter.

Who switched off Zedekiah’s two phones, locked his house from within and carted away the keys so that he could not be rescued by neighbours?

Why is the school involved in an apparent coverup?

A member of the family who spoke to this writer on condition of anonymity said: “Madam Principal should come clean on this matter and record statements with the police because if our son did not die of a power struggle at work then it is possible he stumbled upon information that could seriously incriminate his bosses. We are also tired of conspiracy theories, we just want the truth.”
