I Will Appear Before Parliament Tomorrow – Rigathi Gachagua Comes Out Fighting

One hour and eleven minutes in a speech that lasted close to two hours Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua was lost for an appropriate expletive to describe the charges brought up against him.

“I do not want to speak in Kikuyu but I lack an appropriate word to describe this useless motion brought to Parliament by Mutuse,” said Gachagua.

However, he had freely used the expression useless, nonsensical and stupid in reference to the motion.

He had also casually detailed how his enterprising son walked into a bank and borrowed KES 600,000 as startup capital for a business venture.

“Since capitation was removed from the office of the wife of the Deputy President, many Kenyans have been trooping to the office of Pastor Dorcas to offer material and financial support “. That statement failed to sound ridiculous coming from a person who emphasized that Wamunyoro Capital Investments only owns a few hundreds of flats and shopping malls in Ngong outside Nairobi.

Gachagua attempted to apply the victim card but for a person used to having his way the arrogance still seeped through making him as believable as a crow.

When it came to the acquisition of the historical Nyeri Treetops Hotel (which legally should be under the oversight of Kenya Wildlife Services) he made the lame allegation that its transfer was annexed to the purchase of the lavish Outspan Hotel.

Assigning so much wealth to his late elder brother who was also the first Governor of Nyeri County, James Nderitu Gachagua and claiming he was heir according to the brother’s will was also a false step.

That cock-and-bull story about: “every time I go to the Rift Valley the people give me two cows and in two years I have the biggest dairy farm in Nyeri,” exposed the DP.

The Deputy President has also released to the media too much documentary evidence. It reminds me of a lawyer friend who once revealed that at the school of law they are taught to smell out the conmen – they are always overrepresented, overconfident and inadvertently produce overwhelming evidence (much of it cooked up).

The address opened a glimpse to the public of of gross avarice and mass corruption.

Now that Gachagua has decided to seize the bull by the horns and not resign the situation is bound to be murky and really, really messy.

Meanwhile, greedy or not, the method being used to discard Gachagua having used him to disgrace Uhuru Kenyatta and get Ruto in power is utterly inhuman. But that is a discourse best left for politicians.
