Another suspect linked to Wells Fargo Human Resource Manager Willis Ayieko’s murder has been killed following a confrontation with police.
Speaking to the press on Thursday, October 31, Nyanza Regional Police Commander Patrick Tito said the suspect was gunned down by police after reportedly trying to fire at the officers.
The police boss said the suspect was hiding in a hotel near Kisumu Polytechnic where he checked in after escaping from Siaya where he was involved in a police shootout.
“We are focused on restoring order and security. Criminals cannot roam freely, threatening innocent lives. We will continue to pursue any suspects until justice is served. Upon confrontation, the suspect attempted to open fire on our officers, forcing them to respond with necessary force. This was a dangerous criminal on the run, and our team acted to ensure public safety,” Tito said.
The suspect fled to Kisumu following a shootout with police in Gem Wagai, Siaya County.
According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the suspect and his accomplice were found in possession of a gun that had been robbed from Ayieko on the night of his murder.
DCI said officers from Wagai Police Station flagged a vehicle being driven by the suspects after members of the public reported that the two had a gun in their vehicle, a Toyota Axio.
However, DCI said when the police tried to stop the vehicle, the male driver fired at the officers while speeding off, prompting a heightened car chase.
“This prompted a hot chase that ended at Adder Farm within Kagilo area, where the vehicle lost control and rolled over on the left side of the road. Unfortunately, the driver managed to escape, leaving behind the female passenger, who was injured and unconscious,” DCI said in a statement.
