Police have denied social media reports that two people breached security at State House, Mombasa and were arrested while occupying the president’s bed.
A screenshot widely circulated on Sunday 17 November 2024 bore the caption:
“Thieves Maina & Muthoni arrested sleeping in President Ruto’s King Size bed at State House Mombasa. They broke in from an open window just to feel how comfortable a President’s bed is they said. No other items were damaged or stolen. Guards were alerted after the cooks heard loud ‘snoring’ sounds coming from the bedroom,”
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has dismissed the poster as “fake news”, without furnishing further information over the incident .

In 2019, a 25-year-old university student attempted to access Nairobi State House by scaling a wall and was shot and wounded in the process.

“He drew out a knife which prompted officers to fire at him where he sustained a gunshot wound on the left shoulder plate,” a police report read in part.
State Houses and State Lodges, which are the president’s official residences, are guarded by an elite team from the General Service Unit (GSU) who provide round-the-clock security.
In addition there are special squads of paramilitary snipers who protect the buildings and the VVIP occupants.
