Excitement gripped employees of the Siaya County government as senior officials on Thursday presented the final part of departmental reports to the County Budget and Economic Forum. The forum is headed by Governor James Aggrey Bob Orengo but was today chaired by Mr. Hillary Omondi as a representative of the CBEF alongside other members.

The workshop has run from Monday to Thursday at Camunya Hotel in Ugunja sub-County .

The workshop was organized by the Department of Finance and Economic Planning, which has been coordinating the working groups for the Financial Year 2025/26.

In consultation with line ministries and respective stakeholders, the groups developed and documented strategic plans, projects, and programs for the fiscal year, aligned with the annual development plans.

On Monday, the Departments of Agriculture, Irrigation, Food, Livestock, and Fisheries, along with Water, Environment, Climate Change, and Natural Resources, presented their reports.

On Wednesday, January 14th, the Departments of Public Works, Energy, Roads and Transport, Lands, Tourism, Culture, Sports and Arts, and Trade, Enterprise, and Industrialization and Siaya, Bondo, and Ugunja Municipalities shared their updates.

The final day today saw presentations from the Departments of Education, Youth, Gender, Social Services, Finance, Economic Planning, County Public Service Board, Office of the County Attorney, and Governance, Administration, and ICT.  

The Department of Governance, Administration, and ICT was represented by the Director of Public Communication, Mr. Chrispine Omondi, his counterpart for Disaster Management, Mr. Francis Aola, and West Ugenya Ward Administrator, Madam Dianna Abuto. The representatives highlighted some of the department’s challenges, objectives, and strategies to address them.

They noted financial constraints and appealed for increased funding for governance-related areas such as communication, modern working equipment (e.g., public address systems), and additional ward offices to accommodate ward administrators.

They also emphasized the need for robust communication tools and resources to improve the functioning of the Office of the Governor and enhance human resource capacity to manage the county workforce effectively.  

The two directors also advocated strongly for improved disaster management, requesting additional resources such as vehicles to facilitate efficient transport for staff handling disaster-related cases. They stressed the need for prompt and urgent responses to such emergencies and called for enhanced support from the County Government in charge.
