National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula has officially recognized Suna East MP Junet Mohammed as the Majority Leader in Parliament. Wetang’ula made the announcement while reading a list of MPs honored by President William Ruto.

Chaos erupted earlier as Azimio Coalition MPs attempted to occupy the majority side of the chamber, leading to a tense standoff. In the first sitting after recess, some lawmakers were seen scrambling for majority seats, forcing Wetang’ula to intervene. He repeatedly urged MPs to take the nearest available seats, but the commotion persisted.

During the reading of the House orders, MPs were heard shouting, disrupting proceedings. At one point, an MP entered the chamber, triggering Azimio members to stamp their feet and make noise. The Speaker struggled to restore order as the session continued amid heightened political tensions.

Junet’s recognition as Majority Leader signals a shift in parliamentary leadership, although the opposition’s reaction highlights ongoing disputes over political dominance in the House. Wetang’ula’s ruling is expected to shape future legislative engagements
