Siaya Governor James Aggrey Bob Orengo has strongly condemned the abduction by police officers of former Nandi Hills MP Alfred Keter.

Taking to his X handle Orengo said Kenya was beginning to look like Haiti than Haiti itself.
“Abductions, killings, terror and ruthless repression Kenya is beginning to look more like Haiti than Haiti. RELEASE ALFRED KETER”

The former MP was abducted Mafia-style in broad daylight in Kileleshwa area of Nairobi early today. A video clip of the arrest shows masked men bundling the former Legislator into a double-cabin vehicle after forcefully removing him from his four-wheeler.

The Law Society of Kenya through Chairperson Faith Odhiambo tracked Keter to Kamukunji Police Station. The Directorate of Criminal Investigation has issued a statement claiming that the arrest was routine:

“Contrary to the misinformation circulating on social media on alleged abduction of Hon Alfred Keter by unknown men, this is to confirm that Hon Keter was arrested earlier today by NPS Officers for Conspiracy to Traffic Firearms and Incitement to Violence.

He was booked at Kamukunji Police Station and later released pending Forensic Analysis of exhibits. Thereafter the file will be forwarded to the ODPP for direction. Police are urging members of the public to refrain from acts of violence, hate speech and malice for sustained peace and security in our beloved country”

Keter’s wife and son, however, stated that he was abducted because of his stand in supporting the anti- Finance Bill 2024 protestors.

Governor Orengo has wholly criticized the direction that the Kenya Kwanza administration is taking in abducting and killing youth connected with the Gen Z movement. This is a form of intimidation that will not succeed, said Governor Orengo.

Orengo is himself an agitator for civil liberties whose place is clearly etched out in the annals of our history.
