South Mugirango MP Sylvanus Osoro has declared that President William Ruto — not former Interior CS Fred Matiang’i — is the political kingpin of the Kisii region.
Speaking during a political engagement, Osoro stated:
“Kingpin wa Wakisii ni Ruto, sio Matiang’i. Hata ukiangalia Ruto ndiye ako na viongozi wengi Kisii kuliko Matiang’i.”
Osoro argued that the President enjoys broader support among elected leaders in Kisii compared to Matiang’i, who has recently been associated with opposition mobilisation efforts in the Gusii region.
The remarks come amid growing political activity in Kisii, where leaders allied to both the government and the opposition have been holding rallies and consolidating support ahead of the 2027 General Election. Matiang’i, who served in senior Cabinet roles under former President Uhuru Kenyatta, has in recent months been linked to renewed political engagements within the region.
Osoro’s comments reflect the ongoing contest for influence in Kisii, with both camps seeking to position themselves as the dominant political force in the area. Neither Ruto nor Matiang’i has directly responded to Osoro’s latest remarks.
