IN the next ten years Siaya will host tourists in nice hotels similar to those at the coastal region.

According Siaya Tourism executive Anjeline Oduor, we are working on modalities that would make Siaya attractive to tourists and investor.

Currently, Siaya is opening lake fronts/Beaches with a view to encourage investors interested on hotel industry.

Siaya is blessed with beaches that are not fully utilized and I believe this is the time for the investor to come and develop the hotels,” said Oduor adding that as a county, they are ready to work with investors on it.

“we shall ensure they(investors) are not harassed and would again guide them on areas they can get lands at affordable rates,” she added.

Ms Oduor spoke during a forum that saw several hotels awarded bronze and silver medals after meeting the standards set by the Tourism Regulation Authority(TRA).

“I congratulate all the winners who managed to get the awards. Am equally encouraging other hotel owners who fell short of the standards and were not awarded to work hard and achieve the set standards,” said Ms Oduor.

The recognition serves as a beacon of the hotel’s unwavering dedication to exceeding industry standards and providing exceptional experiences to its patrons.

TRA has accredited 9 hotels in Siaya Siaya as per quality of services they offer.

In the assessment and Evaluation exercise that was conducted by TRA certified Assessor in April 2024, 14 hospitality facilities in Siaya were assessed.

Siaya is part of the 10 Western region counties programmed for the exercise.

Other counties were Kisumu, Homa-bay, Nyamira, Kisii, Migori, Busia, Bungoma, Kakamega, and Vihiga.

IN terms of rankings and accreditation awards, Siaya County hotels garnered 6 bronze and 3 silvers.

Hotels awarded Bronze included Little Gem resort, The LOCH, MAY hotel, The villa International Palace, Candela and Dhe JOMELS.

“Distinction garden, Bondo Pride Hotel and Siaya County club received silver awards.

According to TRA director General Norbert Talam, the exercise was conducted fairly and the assessors were keen on premise quality in terms of facilities and amenities; size of rooms including the washrooms, location and accessibility.

“The security, hygiene and sanitation of the facilities, kitchen, guest’s data base, environmental and Socio-cultural activities,” he added,

The accreditation process will then lead to hotel classification which is the star rating of these establishments.

The uncredited hotels did not garner enough points from the parameters and were given recommendations of which when implemented the status could change.

The TRA had assessed Siaya hotels which includes Siaya County club, Bondo Pride, Distinction Gardens, Dhe Jomels, The candela, The Villa International Place, The MAY, The LOCH, Little Gem Resort, The Don, Manicaland, Siaya Summit Resort, The Audrey Golf Resort, and Camunya.
