During a special sitting of the Central Management Committee of ODM Party held Wednesday afternoon, Prof. Peter Anyang Nyong’o was designated Chairman of the Central Management Committee in all subsequent meetings held as party leader Raila Amollo Odinga focuses on his bid for the African Union Commission Chairmanship.

Nyong’o also thanked the party and it’s top leadership for the show of confidence in his leadership.

“I extend my heartfelt gratitude to our leader, Rt. Hon. Raila Odinga, and the entire Central Management Committee for entrusting me with the responsibility of Acting Party Leader. I deeply appreciate the confidence you have placed in me to oversee the party while Baba focuses on international duty,” said Nyong’o.

Wakil Fred Odumo Nying’uro referred to the appointment as deserving and added that “His Excellency Peter Anyang Nyong’o is a levelheaded person whose tenure at the apex of ODM Party will be distinguished by sober and practical decisions. I strongly believe that Nyong’o will strive to unite Kenyans under the party and I also see this as a confirmation of the maturity of Kisumu politics. The world is watching us!”.

Others who have also wished the governor well in his new assignment are members of Kisumu Rotary Club and the outgoing Senator Prof. Tom Ojienda. Ojienda has openly declared that he will not be vying for the Kisumu Senatorial seat thereby leaving Fred Odumo Nying’uro competing against himself.
