The Kenyan Court of Appeal has today made a very tough ruling rejecting the application by the Acting Inspector-General of Police Gilbert Masengeli to have his 6 months imprisonment quashed.
The Acting Inspector-General of Police had rushed to the court of Appeal after High Court Judge Justice Lawrence Mugambi sentenced him to 6 months in jail for contempt of court.
The AIG had snubbed court summons for a record 6 times. The court wanted him to explain the disappearance of 3 Kenyans who were among the youths abducted during the Gen Z demonstrations.
All eyes are on his next course of action whether or not he will now present himself to prison to start his 6 months imprisonment or he will go to the supreme court to challenge the decision of the Court of Appeal.
Yesterday, Douglas Kiricho Kanja who was nominated by the head of state President William Ruto for the position of Inspector General of Police was approved by the National Assembly.
The only thing now remaining is his swearing in to take over from Masengeli who has been in acting capacity since the resignation of Japhet Koome
