🌿 Save Yala Swamp: Protect Our Heritage, Secure Our Future 🌿

Dear Friends and Supporters,

We are reaching out to you with an urgent appeal to stand with the Yala Swamp communities in Busia and Siaya Counties, Kenya. Yala Swamp, is our country’s largest freshwater wetland, is not just a vital ecosystem but also the lifeblood of our community. It provides us with food, water, pasture, and medicinal herbs, supporting our livelihoods and preserving our cultural heritage.

However, this precious land is under threat. The National Land Commission has controversially allocated 6,763.74 hectares of Yala Swamp to a private developer (Lake Agro LTD) and also in agreement to allocate another 9,200 hectares to Busia sugar company LTD, jeopardizing our rights and the delicate balance of this unique ecosystem. This move threatens to displace our communities, destroy our natural resources, and compromise our future.
