Orengo paid tribute to the former Alego-Usoga MP as a distinguished statesman, patriot, legendary parliamentarian and father of the Parliamentary Service Commission.
Peter Oloo Aringo who was nicknamed “Castro” by peers for his erudite eloquence passed away on Friday the 1st of November, 2024 while undergoing treatment at a Hospital in Nairobi.
Aringo served as a legislator for 25 years in two stints between 1974-1988 and 1997-2002. He was also a long serving cabinet minister in the docket of education and is credited with transitioning Kenya’s education system from the 7-4-2-3 to the 8-4-4 module.
Prior to this the late Aringo served as Assistant Minister and later Cabinet Minister in various portfolios under Presidents Jomo Kenyatta and Daniel Toroitich Arap Moi overseeing the Ministries of Information and Broadcasting, Education, Environment, and Employment.
Earlier on the Siaya Governor (second from right) paid a courtesy call on the family of the late Aringo. With him in the photo apart from family members is the Alego-Usonga MP Samuel Atandi (extreme right).
The body of the late Aringo will be laid to rest on Saturday, 23rd November at his home in Mulaha village, Central Alego Ward of Alego-Usonga Constituency.
