🚨 BREAKING: Former Mt Kenya MP Nabbed in Multi-Million Lorry Theft Crackdown

Feb 9, 2026

Detectives have arrested former Mwea Member of Parliament Peter Njuguna Gitau alongside four other suspects over the alleged theft of two Isuzu lorries reported missing in Murang’a County. The arrests come after investigators concluded what they described as a detailed and carefully tracked investigation into the incident.

Authorities say the trucks — an Isuzu FVZ and an Isuzu FRR — were stolen in the Gatanga area on August 16, 2025. After weeks of tracing leads, officers reportedly located both vehicles in Makupa, Mombasa County.

Investigators claim the suspects tried to disguise the lorries by replacing their original registration plates with fake ones. One of the trucks was found bearing counterfeit plates KDV 449C, while the other had been relabeled KCA 505D in an attempt to avoid detection.

Police identified the other arrested suspects as Mark Kinyua, Erick Chege, David Kigo, and Joseph Ndung’u Waweru. Detectives believe the group worked together in both the theft and the effort to alter the vehicles’ identities.

The recovered lorries are now being held by DCI officers in Gatanga, who say plans are in progress to hand them back to their owners. Meanwhile, all five suspects remain in custody and are expected to be presented in court once processing is complete.

The involvement of a former legislator has intensified public interest in the case as it moves into the court phase.
