Following his diligent academic efforts, David Odhiambo Muga achieved a remarkable score of 399 marks in his KCPE, earning a coveted spot at Maseno School. However, the journey to his secondary education faced uncertainty due to financial constraints, with his father, a casual labourer, and his mother, a housewife, struggling to meet the required fees.
Undeterred by the challenge, Muga took to the internet, posting an appeal for support from well-wishers and sponsors to fund his education. This appeal captured the attention of *Eliud Owalo*, Patron of the Eliud Owalo Foundation. Mr. Owalo, who is also the Cabinet Secretary of Information, Communications, and the Digital Economy, promptly reached out to Muga’s family.
A previous alumnus of Maseno School, Mr. Owalo decided to assist young Muga in pursuing his dreams through the Foundation, which has since paid Muga’s Form 1 fees in full. While handing over a banker’s cheque of Ksh 98,654 to the Principal of Maseno School, Mr. Peter Owino, Mr. Owalo stated, “In our view, education is a catalyst for transformative change, both at the personal and societal levels. Within the Eliud Owalo Foundation, we believe in its unparalleled power to shape a better future. Education stands as the great equalizer, breaking down barriers and levelling the playing field, regardless of one’s age, circumstances, or socio-economic status.”
The amount covers School Fees, Development Fees, Parental support to the Child of Ksh. 2,000 per term (6K per year), Uniform, Games Kits, Mattress, and other consumables. The Foundation has also committed to covering Muga’s Fees up to Form 4.
In addition, the Foundation provided seed capital of Ksh. 50,000 for Muga’s mother to start a business that will augment the family’s finances.
Mr Owalo was accompanied by Maseno School Old Boys, Emmanuel Ombaka, a former School Captain at Maseno School, Dennis Osano Kute and Barack Kamire.
Muga was accompanied by his parents Ruth Addah Agola and Joseph Muga Owera; East Asembo Location Chief, Fred Omino, and Assistant Chief, Agnes Otieno.
Also in attendance, was the Regional Director of Education, Mr Nelson Sifuna; the County Director of Education, Ms Rosemary Birenge; Chairman of the School’s Board, Dr. Olango Onudi; and the DCC Kisumu West, Mr Wanyonyi.
Thanks to the intervention of the Eliud Owalo Foundation, Muga, an aspiring neurosurgeon, now has the opportunity to pursue his secondary education.
