Sirinde village in Kaugagi Udenda Sub-location of West Alego Ward in Siaya County, yesterday woke up to the shocking news of a budding hip-hop artist Calvin Omondi Omollo aka Kilopin Africana who allegedly committed suicide.
The 25-year-old artist credited with the hit song An-Akia had just returned to the village from visiting an elder brother who resides in Kampala, Uganda.
According to eyewitness reports the body of Calvin was discovered Thursday morning hanging from a tree at the spot where his late mother’s remains were interred.
Before the incident, he complained of being short-changed an unspecified amount of money with which he intended to go to the studio and record his latest song.
Calvin was in the process of rehabilitation having recently returned from serving a jail term. In 2017 he was accused of the murder through strangulation of a Form Three student in the Hawinga area of Kaugagi. After a lengthy court process, the charges were reduced to manslaughter and dropped altogether.
The uprising artist is survived by their widower father Magere Oloo and four siblings.
His body has been moved by police to the Siaya County Referral Hospital awaiting postmortem.
