The Homa Bay Affordable Housing Project works which is in progress is already changing the skyline of Homabay town.
The imposing project was initiated by President Dr William Samoei Ruto late last year and has attracted the attention of a global green-energy certification organisation.
The Homabay Affordable Housing Project has earned Homabay County the distinction of being the first County in Kenya to receive international green building certification, EDGE, for the design of its green affordable housing initiative.
EDGE is an international green building certification, developed by the International Finance Corporation (IFC), the private sector arm of the World Bank.
The Homa Bay project will consist of over 400 affordable housing units on an 11-acre tract in Homa Bay town and is the first affordable housing project in Kenya that will be EDGE certified. This is a collaboration between the National Government, under the National Housing Corporation (NHC), and Homa Bay County.
Phase one of the project will consist of 30 studios, 40 one-bedroom and 40 two-bedroom houses, retailing at KES1.58 million, KES2.5 million and KES3.52 million respectively. The pricing also makes the new project the most affordable certified green homes available in the Kenyan market to date.
The progress of President Ruto’s other mega projects that are shaping Homa Bay county’s economy include the modern fish market and revival of the Homabay Pier.
