Gem Member of Parliament Elisha Ochieng Odhiambo Akuba yesterday disowned a letter circulating on social media purporting that he has tendered his resignation from the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party.

The MP scoffed at the perpetrators of the letter whom he said were: “people who have run out of ideas after trying everything else to tarnish my name in Gem Constituency and finding the voters solidly behind me.”

The letter purported that the Gem MP was demanding for direct nomination as a precondition to contest the next General Elections on an ODM ticket. It also stated that if the condition was not met he would part ways with the party.

Elisha Ochieng Odhiambo Akuba is a Life Member of the Orange Democratic Movement ODM Party and he doesn’t see himself leaving the party in the foreseeable future.

“How do I leave a party of which am going to be the Secretary-general? Does it make sense to you?,” he asked DalanewsKe.

Although the elections are three years out there’s a lot of jostling and realignments going on in Gem Constituency ahead of the 2027 poll. Already five candidates are on the possible list of contenders with the incumbent facing challenges from Kisumu County Manager Abala Wanga, former Siaya Senatorial aspirant James Wamban, hardened 2022 run-up Booker Ngesa and Jalang’o Midiwo (cousin to Odinga’s).

Gem politics is always volatile and already sprinklings of violence here and there have been reported as the contestants silently flex their muscles.
