Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) detectives have recovered a vehicle believed to have been used in the abduction, killing and subsequent disposal of the body of Meru County-based blogger Daniel Muthiani Benard alias Sniper.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the DCI said the vehicle, a silver Toyota Premio, was found at a home in Canopy area of Meru County following an intelligence-led operation.
“The identification and subsequent recovery of the vehicle, a silver Toyota Premio registration number KCR 742N followed thorough forensic analysis of crucial leads, which pointed to a residential place at Canopy area of Kithoka, Meru county,” reads the statement.
According to the DCI, homicide detectives have identified one of the suspects, Vincent Mureithi Kirimi alias Supuu, as the driver who hired the vehicle on the date of abduction and gruesome murder of Sniper.
The vehicle was reportedly ferrying other three occupants including Brian Mwenda, Christus Manyara Kiambi and Boniface Kithinji Njihia alias DJ Kaboom on the fateful day.
“Further investigations are ongoing with the Homicide team working expeditiously on the case,” said the DCI.
Sniper disappeared on December 2, 2023, before his body was discovered two weeks later.
Five suspects would later be arrested in connection to the killing, including; Kenneth Mutua Gatiri alias Gasigi, Fredrick Muruiki Kiugi alias Pope, Franklin Kimathi alias Dudu Ras, Timothy Kinoti alias Timo and Murangiri Kenneth Guantai alias Tali.
They were nabbed in Merau town by homicide detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on January 4, 2024, and booked at various police stations within Nairobi and Kiambu.
A post-mortem examination conducted on the body of the deceased at the Marimanti Level 4 Hospital mortuary revealed that he died of strangulation.
