President Dr William Samoei Ruto yesterday promised to release KES 860 million to settle outstanding dues owed to sugarcane farmers.

Dr. Ruto made the promise while speaking at the Awendo-Migori sugarbelt.

Consequently in a press statement released by his office and dated today the 8th day of October 2023, the Head of State divulged that the Kenyan Government will pay Kenyan farmers KES 860 Million before December this year.

The amount is meant to defray debts sugar milling companies owe to farmers.

The president underscored that prompt payment of dues owed to Kenyans by sugar companies is one of the major plans of his administration to revive the sugar sector.

While speaking in Awendo SONY the president was accompanied by Cabinet Secretaries Eliud Owalo, Ezekiel Machogu, Nakhumicha, Moses Kuria, Davis Chirchir, and Salim Mvurya. Also present was Migori Governor Ochilo Ayacko and Siaya Deputy Governor Dr. William Oduol Denge.

Others were Mark Nyamita (Uriri), Caroli Omondi (Suba South), Elisha Odhiambo (Gem), Dr Gideon Ochanda (Bondo), Paul Obuor (Rongo), David Ochieng’ (Ugenya), Prof. Tom Ojienda (Kisumu), Marwa Kitayama (Kuria East), Mathias Robi (Kuria West), and Phelix Odiwuor (Langata).

Former Governors Okoth Obado (Migori), Jack Ranguma (Kisumu) and Evans Kidero (Nairobi) also graced the occasion.
