Githunguri Member of Parliament Gathoni Wamuchomba claims that President William Ruto is steadily regaining his political influence in the Mt. Kenya region.
Posting to her official X account on Sunday, February 22, 2026, Wamuchomba cited ongoing infrastructure projects and a surge in grassroots support as clear signs of the president’s comeback. She noted that Ruto’s development projects are actively changing how residents across the region perceive his administration.
“I am happy that President Ruto is regaining his political grip in the mountain. And looking at the infrastructural developments underway, some constituencies have become construction sites. Watu wa Mlima wana enzi maendeleo,” Wamuchomba stated.
Wamuchomba also took a subtle shot at former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) leader, who once claimed President Ruto could not win over Mt. Kenya without his support.
“Yule wa ‘Rais hawezi pata kura ya mlima bila mimi’ anatype aki delete. Siasa ni ground. Githunguri iko tick,” she remarked.
President Ruto has intensified his efforts to secure Mt. Kenya’s support despite pushback from Gachagua and his supporters. The president has dismissed attempts to weaken his political influence in the region, maintaining that his bond with the local residents remains strong.
During a Sunday service on January 11, 2026, at ACK St. Paul’s Church Kariki in Gachagua’s backyard in Othaya, Nyeri, Ruto told the congregation that petty politics and rumors would fail to undermine his support.
“The friendship that we have built has a foundation. Some think they can bring petty politics and noise to destroy the foundation that we built. That is not possible,” Ruto said.
