A possible political rapprochement between former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and retired President Uhuru Kenyatta appears to be taking shape, signaling a potential shift in alliances within Kenya’s leadership landscape.
In recent days, Gachagua has publicly come to the defense of Kenyatta following criticism and pressure from several leaders, particularly from the Western region, who questioned the former Head of State’s continued involvement in political affairs after retirement.
Speaking during a national address, Gachagua strongly condemned the attacks directed at Kenyatta and warned against attempts to interfere with the retired president’s benefits over his political engagement.
“I will not allow any leader from the government side to attack Uhuru Kenyatta, and I will always come out to defend him,” Gachagua declared.
His remarks have fueled speculation of an emerging political understanding between the two leaders, with observers describing the anticipated handshake as increasingly likely. Analysts say the developing stance could reshape political alignments if formalized.
