The Gusii region has emerged as a key political battleground ahead of Kenya’s 2027 elections, with leaders from various parties actively mobilizing support and consolidating their bases. Among these leaders, Eugene Wamalwa, the Cabinet Secretary for National Cohesion and Integration, has played a prominent role in energizing opposition supporters and articulating a message critical of the current government.
During a recent rally in Kisii, Wamalwa used powerful rhetoric to underscore the determination of the region’s electorate. He declared that even if the president were to bring stars, the sun, or the moon, the people of Kisii would maintain their political stance and support opposition causes. This statement aligns with the wider “WanTam” movement — shorthand for one term — which advocates for limiting the incumbent government’s tenure and promoting alternative leadership. By invoking such imagery, Wamalwa emphasized the resolve of local communities to assert their political voice regardless of national campaigning efforts.
The Kisii rallies also highlighted the symbolic recognition of community leaders, notably former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i
