The High Court in Kiambu on Monday struck out a petition by Nominated MP Sabina Chage challenging her removal as the Deputy Minority Whip in the National Assembly. The ruling now grants the prerogative to kick her out of the position to the appointing authority, Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Coalition.
Sabina Chege was nominated by Jubilee Party to the 13th Parliament following her bold campaign alongside the Azimio candidate, Raila Amollo Odinga.
Once she got to Parliament, Ms Chege openly supported President Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza Alliance and even mounted an internal rebellion against the Jubilee Party leader, former President Uhuru Muigai Kenyatta.
Together with Kanini Kega they purported to have taken over the leadership of Jubilee Party and its headquarters but bolted in the last minute when President Uhuru confronted them.
Ms. Chege had filed the petition seeking the court to block her ouster after the Azimio brigade kicked her out of the seat. Azimio had replaced her with Embakasi West Member of Parliament and one of the remaining loyalties of ex President Uhuru Kenyatta, Mark Muriithi Mwenje.
Jubilee Party is now demanding that the Speaker of the National Assembly, Moses Masika Wetangula should ratify the changes and allow Mark Mwenje to take over as the Deputy Minority Whip.
Initially Wetangula had cited some dubious statute granting him powers to deny Azimio the authority to replace Sabina Chege.
