Comedian-turned-social-activist Eric Omondi on Monday paid a social call on Siaya Governor James Aggrey Bob Orengo at home.
Eric Omondi was hosted by Governor Orengo and his wife Betty Murungi at their palatial home in Ramunde village of Ugenya Constituency. The Governor’s ostentatious residence complete with a helipad was yesterday transformed into a laughing theatre as the stand-up comedian cracked some of his most notable lines.
The comedian was in Siaya, ostensibly to launch several development programmes.
Eric Omondi is gaining traction as a political operative in his own right with frequent run-inns up against the police as he spearheads advocacy.
Early this year he was arrested for organising a sit-in outside Parliament buildings to protest the high cost of Unga. Omondi has also shaped his brand around philanthropy and is highly visible in helping raise medical funds for the disadvantaged, particularly children through a popular outfit known as Sisi kwa Sisi.
The 39-year-old Eric Omondi falls under the highest category of Kenya’s digital content creators-cum-brand ambassadors.
Omondi challenged Governor Orengo to create employment for youth by promoting performing arts. Although he was full of praises for the Orengo administration which, according to him, had fulfilled its campaign promises he was quick to point out that to a large extent the creative industry in Siaya has been moribund.
Meanwhile, word in the grapevine is that Eric Omondi is gearing up for elective politics come 2027.
