Angry residents of Kesses in Uasin Gishu County on Monday November 27 stormed Moi University main campus demanding the removal of the Vice-Chancellor whom they accused of ineptitude.
On Saturday the 25 similar demonstrations were conducted but it appears the local community is not satisfied with the way the Ministry is handling their grievances.
The locals were demanding for the immediate transfer of Professor Isaac Kosgei whom they said had mismanaged the institution and defaulted on paying university workers in long stretches of time.
A student at the campus said the demonstrations were mainly orchestrated by locals who were later joined by students waving placards and banners spilling onto the Eldoret-Nakuru highway and making it impassable.
The demonstrators are now acknowledging that local politicians have meddled in the running of the institution as they ganged up and engineered the removal of the former VC Prof. Laban Ayiro.
“The current VC is our kinsman and neighbour, but he has done too little to help,” a demonstrator told this website, adding “We remember the days of Prof. Laban Ayiro, who acted as the VC and attended community harambees in the locality. The current one never does that.”
A member of the student leadership fraternity voiced her concerns saying “We are calling on the president to help us get another VC. We will not stop the demonstrations until the current VC is replaced. This is a do-or-die for us.”
