This week, Siaya residents witnessed fighting youth from opposing sides of the political divide hit each other with plastic seats at a funeral attended by Hon. Raila Odinga in Ugenya. Earlier in the month, stone throwing youth, suspected to be supporteers of Governor Orengo, disrupted another funeral in Gem.

Why the intolerance towards those who hold a different view from that of the “ruling” elite? Is it not democracy to allow majority have their way, and minority have their say?

During an end of year thanks giving service at his home on Friday, Hon. Elisha Odhiambo asked the security teams to make haste and arrest perpetrators of vilolence, especially in Gem, and bring back sanity to public events. This Christmas season, he says, should be a time for sharing and caring, and not fighting among brethren..
