Ugunja Member of Parliament and Minority Leader in the National Assembly James Opiyo Wandayi sent a message of goodwill to Kenyans at the start of 2024.
Wandayi said that although 2023 had been full of peculiar challenges exacerbated by the unrest in Europe and a plummeting global economy, Kenyans had shown exceptional bravery and tenacity.
“As we bid farewell to the difficult Year 2023,” Wandayi said, “we pause to reflect on our challenges; here is hoping that the new year 2024 brings new happiness and creates new opportunities for all Kenyans and their families.”
Wandayi’s message to Mama Mboga and the downtrodden youth and women in this country is that every night has a silver lining.
The Ugunja MP was among the Azimio key leaders at the just concluded National Assembly Dialogue Committee (NADCO). As the Chairman of the Parliamentary Accounts Committee (PAC), Wandayi is also well-versed in the economic hurdles that Kenyans had to surmount in 2023.
Closer home, Mr. Wandayi had a relatively good year, rising to be the most conspicuous political figure in Siaya County politics beside Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party leader, Raila Amollo Odinga. His exemplary development record in Ugunja Constituency has seen him ranked among the best performing legislators in the country.
James Opiyo Wandayi was instructively the only politician that Baba chose to accompany him during the dinner hosted for King Charles III by President Ruto at State House, Nairobi.
His rigorous campaign against the high cost of living and punitive taxation has often seen him get on the wrong side of law enforcement agencies.
A soft-spoken, unassuming person, James Opiyo Wandayi has handled his rise to political prominence in the usually turbulent environment of Luo Nyanza politics with magnanimity and grace.
Political pundits have long seen him as the person earmarked to take over the mantle of kingpin should Raila choose to retire from active politics.
