“I want to thank the school for their support that saw me get 402 marks in the 2023 KCPE examination,” said an elated Awuor.

She further appreciated the County Government of Siaya for coming to her aid.

“I want to take this opportunity to thank our Governor Orengo for rescuing me from the depression I have undergone ever since I received my results,” said Awuor.

The scholarship effectively keeps alive her desire to undertake media studies and become a journalist .

According to Education executive Dr Edgar Otumba and Chief Officer Kut Ochogo, though the girl did not apply for the bursary, they felt it fair to intervene in light of her impressive results.
“We learnt that the girl who posted good results in Rarieda had difficulties in continuing with her Education and enlisted her for the County bursary scheme,” said Dr. Otumba.

“We have taken her complete upkeep demands and she will be part of our agenda every year till she clears her education,” said Otumba.

He further asked the public facing challenges in matters Education to approach his office for consultations rather than subjecting their children to the dehumanising practice of  carrying placards with photos shared on social media platforms.

“Approach us with issues that the office can resolve amicably,” Dr. Kut Ochogo added his voice to the discourse.

He also assured the girls’ relatives that through his office he would ensure support initiatives were forthcoming so as to keep the girl in school.

“We further hope that we shall get value for the money through the impressive performance all through her learning period,” said Dr Ochogo.

He added that from next week, bursary forms will be made available for all secondary school students.

“We shall avail the forms for bursary and expect anyone with fee challenges to apply,” said Dr Ochogo revealing that KES 24 million was reserved for Form Ones.

East Asembo MCA Gordon Onguuru lauded Orengo for his quick response towards the fate of the orphaned girl.
