Gem Constituency Member of Parliament Elisha Ochieng Odhiambo Akuba has instituted a preview of continuous assessment in NG-CDF bursary disbursement.

Under his patronage, all students who received bursary support from last year’s disbursement will continue getting bursary support for their education journey except those who are confirmed to have completed Form Four last year.

The MP has stated that while a lot of focus is put on acquiring numbers of new disbursements for the sake of PR, in Gem Constituency the strategy is qualitative and honest sponsorship of needy cases.

“In doing so, we ensure all students from Gem are in school throughout learning sessions to enable them to fully concentrate on their studies. The New applicants will be added to the current data we have in our office, they too will be getting bursary support till they complete their studies,” said the MP.

Under his stewardship, Gem Constituency has earned an exemplary record nationally in transparency and accountability during the disbursement of the National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF).

According to Mr. Elisha Odhiambo, this has been made possible through dialogue and constant feedback from the people of Gem.

“It is not just a matter of parading needy students for photoshoots but laying strategies that will ensure they are supported throughout their education journey for better academic and co-curriculum activities in their respective schools,” added the MP.

He further said that the Gem Constituency is undergoing a political orientation that might soon surprise the entire country. While maintaining his desire to one day become the Secretary General of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party, Akuba said there’s a vibrant shift and democratic freedom among voters to support a party of their choice.

Today 20th January 2024, public participation in the Bursary application process was held in Karariw Primary School where residents of Central Gem Ward were able to attend and participate in vetting needy students who were identified and brought by Village elders as directed by the MP Hon Elisha Ochieng Odhiambo early this week.

A total of 927 needy students were vetted and given bursary forms to fill and hand over to the NG-CDF office by Monday midday.

Another group of 320 students who attended the function and were not on village elders’ lists were also vetted in public and provided with bursary forms after a directive from the MP.
