A number of upcoming and prominent Luo leaders converged in Nakuru for a town hall meeting last night.
Although the meeting was not given much media prominence critical issues affecting the direction of political path charted by the Luo nation was discussed.
Lately there’s been polarity among Luo leadership as political opportunists attempt to play ODM Party leader Raila Amollo Odinga against Interior PS Raymond Omollo.
Those present at the meeting are said to have resolved to carry on cooperation with the government of the day while exploiting every available opportunity for service delivery to the people of Nyanza.
During the meeting a number of participants are said to have blamed certain leaders in ODM Party for unnecessarily stoking rivalry and animosity between Raila and Omollo.
Participants scoffed at threats by one Governor in Nyanza who claims that United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Party members should not be given audience at his functions. They said that in this time and era the focus should be on implementation of the Government’s digital agenda so as to create employment for the youth, not the reverse.
A reason for the prevailing brain drain in Nyanza was identified as lack of investment in innovative enterprise that could retain the youth in the villages after school.
One of the leaders with a background in the laughter industry caused laughter when he said that back in his home County the major economic activity currently is dancing and consuming alcohol.
Those present included Kisumu Senator Prof. Tom Ojienda, PS Raymond Omollo, Langata MP Felix Odiwuor, former National Police Service Spokesperson Charles Owino Wahongo, Mr. Odoyo Owidi and Dr. Simon Peter among others.
The leaders resolved to hold more town halls across the country and give the Luo in the diaspora a chance to be heard in contemporary issues of governance.
