The Ethics and Anti-corruption Commission (EACC) on Thursday arrested Garissa Water Managing Director Dolal Mohamed Mohamud for possessing forged academic credentials.
The water official was arrested from his office in Garissa town barely days since the Chairman of EACC Bishop David Oginde made an undertaking that the commission was going to institute countrywide crackdown on officials possessing fake or forged academic certificates.
Mr. Dolal Mohamed Mohamud has been detained at the Garissa Police Station until Friday when he will be arraigned in court.
Oginde promised the crackdown on officials in the national as well as County Governments who will be found to have procured employment using fake certificates.
ADVERTISEMENTOginde also said that such frauds will be required to return all the amounts they have drawn from employers as salary.
“When the long arm of the law finally catches up with you, we shall recover all the money you got through that process,” he told the media after meeting Kisumu Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o on Monday.
“Some countries are already beginning to blacklist our degrees and this would not be good for the young people of this country.”
The crackdown further comes in the wake of a Public Service Commission audit that revealed that over 500 employees in County Governments were occupying posts procured using bogus degrees.
