Yet-to-be-verified reports indicate that Siaya Human Rights Activist Chris Owalla was early this evening thoroughly beaten up by youths who are believed to have been operating at the behest of a politician.

The sad incident took place as Mr Owalla was leaving the burial of illustrious journalist Dickens Wasonga in Sakwa, Siaya County.

Eyewitness reports indicate that Mr. Owalla suffered grievous injuries and humiliation with his clothing shred from off his body.

The activist is on record for criticizing the County Government of Siaya and particularly referencing the last recruitment by Siaya Public Service Board as a sham.

“This was the highest level of mediocrity that we witnessed in a recruitment process. The county government needs to take responsibility for wasting people’s time because they had people earmarked for positions,” Owala said at the time.

Owalla claimed that after advertising for 380 jobs the PSB went ahead and shortlisted politically correct candidates (without considering qualifications) including some former Members of County Assembly. He went ahead to demand for a public apology from the County Executive to the residents of Siaya who he alleged had been short-changed.

Chris Owalla is the Executive Director of the Community Initiative Action Group Kenya (CIAG Kenya) and spears activism on environmental degradation as well as policy issues.

Efforts by DalanewsKe to reach Mr. Owalla finally bore fruit and he told us that he is admitted at the Aga Khan Hospital in Kisumu and the matter has been reported to police.
