After daylong deliberations with ODM Party officials in the Muhoroni sub-county, Wakili Fred Odumo Nying’uro drove back towards Kisumu city.
However, on his way, he made an important detour to do what he loves doing most — talking to the people.
At Awasi market, Wakili was mobbed by jovial tradespeople who all seemed excited and ready for a photoshoot.
The joy on the faces of the market women touched Wakili’s heartstrings and in no time he was distributing a very important health paraphernalia for market women — aprons.
Wakili Fred Odumo Nying’uro distributed aprons in two colours: Orange and Cyan. Besides the now familiar insignia of Fed Odumo Nying’uro, Senator 2027 Kisumu County the aprons were branded with the campaign slogan of Wakili: Wuod Min Achieng.
Wakili caused laughter when he answered a seemingly mischievous market woman who wanted to know the source of his perpetual energy to enable him to run.
“Ni Mungu!” the city lawyer answered in two words loaded with meaning. The words are locally used in sheng as a humble response by overachievers.
The mystery persists on where Wakili draws the raw energy to run up and down the breath of Kisumu County delivering crucial contributions to the betterment of mankind.
In the meantime, since he announced his interest to contest for the African Union Chairmanship there’s been a lot of speculation about the future of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party. In the whole of its lifespan, Raila Amollo Odinga has epitomised the heartbeat of the Party.
Political analyst Javas Bigambo on Saturday said that Raila stood a good chance to be elected head of the continental body; what with the support of President Ruto and the Kenyan Government solidly behind him.
Raila announced his candidacy for the top position at the AU on February 15, 2024, with the endorsement of former Nigerian president Olusegun Obasanjo, setting in motion Kenya’s campaign to lead the continental organization.
Bigambo stressed that President Ruto will likely play a prominent role as Raila’s chief campaigner across the continent, working to secure Kenya’s success in its bid for leadership of the AU.
“This is inevitable because President Ruto will be keen to ensure that Kenya’s bis is successful,” he said.
Although Raila is not unfamiliar with AU circles, having served as the body’s High Representative for Infrastructure from October 20, 2018, to February 23, 2023, Bigambo emphasized the critical importance of President Ruto’s government input.
