On a brief stopover at the Ahero Rice Mills this afternoon Wakili Fred Odumo Nying’uro distributed branded aprons to farmers and traders.

It was the second time in two months that the Nairobi lawyer was making a stopover in the vicinity.

Ecstatic market women engaged Mr Nying’uro shortly before bursting into joyful song and dance after he promised to support any proposal they came up with to uplift their living standards.

” I hope you also know that the world today marks International Women’s Day?” Wakili Nying’uro told them, adding “Today, we celebrate your extraordinary strength, resilience, and achievements in the face of a multitude of challenges. Day in and day out you have overcome the hurdles, breaking barriers and continuing to shape history. Yes, you are our mothers and sisters and daughters and we cherish you very much.”

Before he continued with his journey Wakili paid keen attention to certain suggestions made by the women to improve production and marketing of rice.

The Mwea Irrigation Scheme is the largest rice-growing region in Kenya, followed by Ahero in Kisumu County and Bunyala Scheme in Busia County.

Meanwhile President Ruto this afternoon appointed Azimio leader Raila Amollo Odinga’s sister Walkowa Akinyi Odinga to government position in new changes announced by the State House

Walkowa Akinyi Odinga has been nominated as the Deputy Head of Mission, Los Angeles, United States of America by the Head of State.

This appointment is coming at a time when the Azimio leader and President William Ruto seem to be working on new arrangements pointing at overt cooperation.

The appointment also comes at a time when President Ruto announced his Government’s commitment to the two-thirds gender rule in government appointments.
