Siaya Governor and longstanding human rights activist, Senior Counsel James Aggrey Bob Orengo has called on the government to be accountable as bodies of abducted anti-government protestors keep turning up in quarries.
In a strong-worded statement Orengo said the president assured Kenyans when he was sworn into office, specifically, that dead bodies will never turn up in River Yala. Shockingly dead bodies are now turning up en-mass in quarries.
A visibly vexed Orengo was reacting to reports from the Mukuru Community that yesterday six bodies were retrieved from a quarry in Kware area. Today (Saturday 13, July,2024) several more bodies, some chopped up and stuffed into sacks, have been recovered. The police have offered assistance in the recovery process largely led by civilians.
“There must be accountability for the brutal killings that now seems to be the order of the day in Kenya. We were told no more dead bodies to be dumped in River Yala only for quarries to be turned into the new graveyards. Extrajudicial killings must stop and the state has to bear responsibility.”
The Senior Counsel said the horrifying scenes now put a question mark on government claims that on the night of Tuesday 25 June, 2024 no massacre occurred in Githurai.
The residents of Mukuru kwa Njenga slums where the quarry is located claim that recovered bodies by early Saturday afternoon was twelve and not the six that sections of the media have been peddling.
Meanwhile, many youth affiliated to Gen Z have constantly passed a message to Orengo to advise Azimio leader Raila Amollo Odinga not to do anything that might be interpreted as attempting to sanitize Ruto’s regime.
On Thursday the Orange Democratic Movement ODM Party Secretariat indicated intent to discuss a power sharing deal with Kenya Kwanza. Shortly thereafter Ruto dissolved the cabinet.
The youth are not buying any of these and the message is out there loud and clear that they will not settle for cosmetic changes.
