Insiders in the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party Secretariat have leaked confidential information about infighting among chief party nabobs to find a replacement for John Mbadi in the Chairmanship of the crucial Public Accounts Committee (PAC).

The PAC is one of the most powerful parliamentary committees which traditionally is led by senior members of the main opposition party.

The contest has now sparked tension within the opposition wing, and specifically within the ODM Party.

The vacancy arose from John Mbadi’s departure to serve in the docket of National Treasury Cabinet Secretary. Reports are now emerging of fierce lobbying and the emergence of three factions each supporting a different candidate.

ODM’s decision to nominate Saboti MP Caleb Amisi as the presumptive chair has been met with resistance, with some members arguing that the position should go to someone with more experience, like Butere MP Tindi Mwale who is the current Vice chairman.

Others within ODM favour Rarieda MP Otiende Amollo, a Senior Counsel, while another group supports Funyula MP Wilberforce Oundo.
