The declaration was made following lengthy consultations between outgoing party leader Raila Amollo Odinga and the Central Management Committee.
In a press briefing issued immediately after the declaration the committee also registered displeasure with the way the Kakamega branch was conducting its activities.
Although the Party designated Geoffrey Ondiro as Majority Leader the Speaker of the Kakamega County Assembly, the Governor and the former Majority Leader have ignored the directive.
The Committee has resolved to summon the three senior politicians from Kakamega to appear before it at a date to be specified later. The Committee also directed the two party deputy leaders Simba Arati and Godfrey Osotsi to address ongoing wrangling in the Kilifi branch.
ODM Party has directed the NECC to proceed with the postponed grassroots elections this November.
It is not yet clear that Nyong’o’s appointment to chair the central committee precedes his confirmation as the defacto party leader.

Earlier polls had indicated the Siaya Governor James Aggrey Bob Orengo as a favourite to succeed Raila in the role of Party leader.
Others who have indicated interest in the position are Homabay Governor Gladys Atieno Wanga and Embakasi MP Babu Owino.
