“Despite playing under harsh weather and very slippery fields during the semis, we’ve brought the trophy home,” said a smiling Elizabeth.

An equally elated CECM, Health Dr. Martin K’Onyango who provided moral support with his presence during the finals received the team back home.

If they win the trophy in the next round of KICOSCA games the Siaya County Women’s handball team will keep the cup permanently since they lifted it in 2023 during the competition held in Embu.

The overall winners of the 2024 Kenya Inter-County Sports and Cultural Association (KIKOSCA) Games, held in Kakamega County, were Nairobi City County who clinched a total of 24 medals.

Most impressive was the high level of discipline, resilience, teamwork, and unparalleled skills that kept showing up across the different disciplines.

Siaya County proved, once again, that it was a regional powerhouse in field and track events. The display of raw talent and innovation is deemed a great herald to the inauguration early next month of the world-class Siaya stadium.

The week-long event also featured thrilling displays of culture and heritage.

Meanwhile, Governor James Aggrey Bob Orengo’s administration has promised to nurture sporting talent across the county so as to make good use of the 20,000-seater stadium.
